Gold Ore Haile Mine, 3 ½ miles northeast of Kershaw, Lancaster County, South Carolina


The Haile Mine is located along the Carolina slate belt. It was discovered in 1827 and was active again from 1988 to 1990. Free gold and sulfide deposits containing gold are typical of this material.
