I cut all preforms from rough intending to cut flawless material ready to facet.  The prices indicated vary with the size of the preform and the quality of the material it is cut from.  Although you pay more per carat for a preform, you are more assured of an flawless stone. You do not have the 60% loss of material to deal with when you preform it from rough material.
