Vermont Geology and Mining History Catalog

Recent additions to this catalog are noted in this color.

Personal Note: I have spent some series time looking through this Vermont Collection during the first several months of 2021. It is interesting to learn what a struggle it has been to locate valuable metal deposits in Vermont.  The 10th (1915-1916) and 11th (1917-18) reports of the State Geologist on the Mineral Industries & Geology of Vermont cover the mining of copper.  The 24th Report (1943-1944) returns to mention the Vermont Copper Company and Elizabeth Mine.  Apparently the metal being mining was mainly chalcopyrite, not pure copper.  State Reports between 1918 and 1943 continue to report that metals are not something to look for in Vermont.  Marble and talc are much more plentiful in Vermont than metals.  Comment by Mel Schmidt, MS Book and Mineral Company Owner.
