Copper Ore

Mineral # 4000

Sacaton Mine, Casa Grande, Arizona; located 1 mile S of the Sacaton Mountains,
and 2 1/2 miles W of the Casa Grande Municipal Airport

5 x 8 x 1.5 cm

$  125

Copper Ore

Mineral # 4000

This mine was an open pit on one side and an underground mine on the other side.

This is a sliced section of ore with the cut surface in this view and the natural exterior view below.

This is a close up image inside the rock showing the bands of copper passing through
Monzonite Prophyry and Sacaton Granite.  The black ore is probably chalcocite, and/or silver sulfide.
Almost every typical ore mineral has been found at this location, i.e., gold, azurite, malachite,
pyrite, covellite, etc., but not where this specimen was found.

Copper Ore

Mineral # 4000

This image is outside of the rock showing the copper strands noted inside the rock.
 It looks like the
Pinal Schist found in the area.

Copper Ore

Mineral # 4001

Sacaton Mine, Casa Grande, Arizona

7 x 10 x 1 cm

$ 95

Copper Ore

Mineral # 4001

This is a closeup image of the image above.  It was cut on the diamond saw to a 1 cm thickness to
make sure it would be stable (not come apart during shipping).  Note the quartz veins, some with malachite and others with copper.

The background consists of chalcocite, silver, and/or or other minerals and countless specks of copper.
The dark area  toward the top of the image is abruply black as it is devoid of copper flecks.

Copper Ore

Mineral # 4001

This is a view of the back side of this specimen showing more of the quartz veins
 containing malachite and the matrix containing copper.
