Taking a photo of an object with so many relective surfaces is a real task

So I took about 20 jegs and kept the best three.

Another side of the Arsenopyrite ball.  It has so many sides it is difficult to find an exact again.

Every collection should have at least one of these.

Sulfides in rhyolite

Yanacocha Mine
Cajamarca Mining District, Chaqicoche Deposit
Cajamarca, Peru

This gold and silver mine is classified as a Au-Cu sulphide deposit. This has 7 distinct mining areas.
It is the largest gold mine in South America.

Pyrite, chalcopyrite, silver bearing enargite

Mineral # 3055

4.5 x 8 x 14.5 cm      907 grams

$ 245

The ore in this mine is either black or gray depending on the concentration of pyrite, chalcopyrite,
silver bearing enargite and the amounts of iron sulphide and/or galena and/or sphalerite present in the ore.

This specimen contains all the usual minerals, but has more enargite than usual as outlined by the
crystal structures in this specimen. Granular quartz is found on the top of the specimen.

Yanacocha Mine
Cajamarca Mining District, Chaqicoche Deposit
Cajamarca, Peru

This mine produced 3 million ounces of gold in 2005 and 0.97 million ounces in 2014.
The mine is located in the Andean Mountains on Yanacocha Mountain at elevations from 11,500' to 13,800’.

$ 295

Yanacocha Mine
Cajamarca Mining District

Iron sulphide and/or Covellite

Mineral # 3056

The specimen has very distinct areas of black and gray.
The black mineralized patches are sulphide zones with pyrite and quartz with smaller amounts of enargite, sphalerite, and galena.
The gray areas show the rock that is supporting the minerals.
These gray areas are volcanic pyroclastic rock consisting of andesite, dactite, hornblend- pyroxine porphyry.
Expose this specimen in bright light some of the black mineralized areas are bright blue due to the presence of iron sulphide and/or covellite.
There could be some digenite along the edges of the ore.

This is a closer view.  When you open the package and view this specimen the blue will look totally black.
A light source will turn it blue.  Yana means black.  The ore here looks very dark.

The Yanacocha mine is located 29 miles from the nearest city, Cajamarca, Peru, a city of over 200,000 people.

Black and white specimen

The ore in this mine is either black or gray depending on the concentration of
pyrite, chalcopyrite, silver bearing enargite and the amounts of iron sulphide and/or
galena and/or sphalerite present in the ore. This specimen also has white
spots which are granular quartz or feldspar mixed with fine grained quartz.

Covellite, silver bearing enargite, copper, and gold

Mineral # 3058

3 x 6.5 x 14 cm      680 grams

$ 695

This specimen is a half core. This specimen shows a good view of matrix rock in the Yanacocha Mine.
There are delicate veins of ore passing through the core and toward the one  end this is a fine covellite exposure
which is always  blue leaning toward purple. The best view of Yanacocha ore is seen by looking at the end of the
core specimen adjacent to the covellite exposure. This end view shows why this mine  has been
so profitable. What you are seeing is bright mineralization composed of silver bearing enargite,
copper, and gold. Although gold is almost never seen outright in this mine due to its fineness, but gold
virtually present everywhere this mine.

Yana in Spanish means black, the color of most ore in this mine.

Cocha means a location or place or lagoon.

 Copper, chalcopyrite, silver-bearing enargite

Mineral # 3059

This specimen has breccias with fracturing and crackle-type structure of the
silicated host rocks.   Gold mineralization with copper, chalcopyrite,
silver-bearing enargite are seen here.
There are all shapes and sizes of compartments and empty cavities that
are surrounded by a rim of mineralization that is usually yellow to gold in color.
Some of the mineralized rims are pure copper.
Click on the specimen to get a closer view
If you tip the specimen in bright lighting you will see some blue streaks or flashes
due to the presence of iron sulphides or covellite or both.
This specimen has malachite and chrysocolla crystals on its outer surface.
