Mining History Illustrations

This might be your chance to learn more about the history of mines, mining claims, mine geology, mine structure (shafts, tunnels),
what type of ore was found, who owned them, and hopefully much more...

Did you ever wonder about the details when someone found exposed ore on the surface and then staked a claim for that site?

What was a prospective miner going to do with their new claim
?

What were they hoping to find? Gold, silver, galena, or just wanting to get rich quick, i.e., with their new claim in hand.

Did they advertise that they had a valuable gold claim (even before a adit, tunnel, or shaft was dug) and that
their claim was for sale (for some hair-brain reason) when actually their claim might or might not have any
gold, silver, or any mineralization at all < or > later discovered they sold a treasure trove for too little?

What we find with this study is that all kinds of situations were encountered.  It is interesting to learn some of the details.

This is not a typical "catalog" on this website.

I have found the study of the history, geology, and mining in the early American West (if we can find it) to be educating, fascinating and fun to collect.

What information I have found is for a select number of mines listed on the data page.

This page lists only the state, the county, and mine name only.  Click the link below to continue to the data page for additional explanation.

Some libraries claim their mine information is copyrighted (even though it might be 100 years old and is for the use of individuals, but not authors.)
How should this be handled?
